‘Most situations are simple – many are just emotionally difficult to act upon’  Tim Ferris

Quit your job
Move to another city/country
Start a business
Learn a language
Volunteer

Whatever it is that seems SO HARD… it is not – not from another perception, not from another point of view, not for another state of mind. And you can make it UNhard simply by changing your own perception, point of view, state of mind.

Step 1

Pros and Cons if you DO IT.

Pros and Cons if you DON’T DO IT.

Let’s take an example…

I am at my last year at university – on the way to a first class classification in marketing, completed a year in the industry and gained great experience in digital marketing, received Google certifications for digital marketing, have excellent references and 1000 graduate job opportunities to apply to.

Mom and Dad are so proud, but … I don’t want it. Not right now.

I want to be in the entrepreneurial world. I want to be an influencer in the practical psychology filed and a high-performance coach, a keynote speaker and an author. I want to build a business and help others to do so. (I’ve never really announced that… and it’s a bit painful you’d all know now if I fail) but this will also push me harder to work my socks off…

‘What?! That’s not a profession! Have you lost your mind? Is that why you’re in a £21k debt for a student loan? Are you seriously gonna waste your FUTURE and POTENTIAL? Do you want to end up back in Bulgaria and unemployed? Is that why you’ve been working so hard for the last 4 years?’

would mom and dad say

Ouch…

Anyway, they would of course start with the potential cons, because that’s their way of caring, but I’ll be as objective as possible (even though I tend to be extra positive :D)

If I do it:

+

  • I’ll spend my time doing what I love

  • I’ll bring value to society

  • I’ll be more flexible in balancing all areas in my life when self-employed

  • I’ll meet more like-minded people and make extraordinary friendships

  • I’ll be able learn more about my passion

  • I’ll be successful (not that I’m extra positive, but being passionate about what you do makes you better and better… and plus I will be teaching other people how to, so… I HAVE TO!)

  • I’ll be true to myself.

  • The start is hard and I am alone on this boat

  • I’m 23 and have no experience neither a huge success story – would anyone trust me?

  • If I fail (and I probably will a few times) I need to answer all the questions above (from mom and dad)

  • I may end up jobless and in a debt

  • I may waste a few years which otherwise could be crucial for my marketing career

  • I may disappoint mom and dad

If I don’t do it

+

  • I could find a good job in marketing that pays well, secure a pension and get a mortgage

  • I could build good reputation in the Marketing field and have an appealing CV

  • I will make my parents happy and proud

  • I will never stop thinking ‘what if…’

  • I will hate the 9-5 lifestyle

  • I will not be my best in my job because my mind will wander too much

  • I will quit at some point and do my thing anyway because it will burn me inside

It is obvious to you too now what the right choice for me is, isn’t it?

Love you mum, love you dad, just bare with me…

I will achieve my goals

Tried and tested.

  • I wanted to study in London.

  • I wanted to have only good grades at university.

  • I wanted to get a placement in Marketing.

  • I wanted to be extremely fit and healthy.

  • I wanted to be a leader.

  • I wanted to travel to a new place every month.

  • I wanted to start a blog.

But how to go to London when my parents totally disagreed with me studying in one of the most expensive cities in Europe when they couldn’t even afford supporting me in the Bulgarian capital? How to achieve outstanding results at uni when my English was barely enough to pass my exams? How to get a Marketing placement when all applications required Maths test that I was always failing in and I was also soooooooo uncomfortable with interviews and presentations? How to get super fit when I’ve always had the worst results in PE in the whole class? How to be a leader when my public speaking skills did not exist, when I couldn’t even initiate a small talk, when my confidence with communication was so low? How to travel when travel is so expensive? How to start a blog when I was so worried about being judged?

One answer: change these beliefs ASAP.

  • I study in London.

  • I am on my way to 1st honours degree.

  • I have successfully completed a Marketing placement.

  • I am stronger and fitter than ever.

  • I am the president of Greenwich Entrepreneurs society.

  • I have been to 12 different places in the last year.

  • I am now writing my 7th blog.

Get on your feet and accomplish all the goals you believe are impossible. All you need to do is to lie to yourself that you can (and believe it!). Then you’ll find a way

Step 2

Give yourself a white lie.

‘Build your image now and develop the mental strength to hold it’ Bob Proctor

I strongly support the theory that visualisation is one of the crucial elements in building success. You need to see it in your head before translating it into it’s physical equivalent. I mean, how far can you go, if you don’t know where exactly you’re going?

However, I don’t believe in the ‘magical’ visualisation. You create an image of a million dollars and next thing you know – you win the lottery. You need to work hard and I’m not even talking about the hard work of physically building your success (which is an unmissable part of it) I’m talking about the hard work of visualisation itself.

‘Auto suggestion is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind.’ Napoleon Hill

It’s not a hard job to get into visualisation. I can instantly recommend a few books that will certainly get you excited about it. Holding to that vibe for a long period of time, while results are still not showing – that’s tough.

Some days you just wake up and you are not in the mood and you cannot be bothered with all this ‘positive thinking crap’

Sometimes the present reality is so overwhelming that you think you haven’t got time to be creating a better place in your head.

But you have to.

I have to.

I was on and off visualisation through the years and that’s why some of the stuff was really easy and pleasurable to do, and some of it was dragging and stressing me out until I change my state of mind. And AGAIN, don’t get me wrong when I say ‘easy’, it was a lot of physical effort, but it was easy on my feeling and emotion! I still spent hours and hours in the library and in the gym and on any other project, but I wasn’t stressed, self-doubted or discouraged by little challenges, I just knew I am getting there and I stayed excited through the process – not just when accomplished.

If you know what you want, imagine that you have it and feel the emotion as if it was happening at that very moment. And more importantly, stay consistent.

Once your visualisations become beliefs of your subconscious, the actions towards your goals won’t be emotionally difficult to act upon. Instead, you’ll know exactly what to do, how to do it, and you will be doing it!

Let’s see how far I’ll get with this. Hopefully I can ‘cite’ this blog in my TED talk that will get over a million views on YouTube.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog. Hope it was a good experience!

Love,

Maria
